Alpla And Texplast Strengthen PET Recycling Partnership
Recently, Alpla and Texplast invested 4.5 million euros to add a new extrusion line at Texplast’s Wolfen plant in Germany to strengthen the PET recycling partnership. This has further increased the recycling capacity of food-grade PET recycled materials at the plant, which can increase by 15,000 tons per year.
The new extrusion line is expected to go into production in 2019 and will be the third extrusion line for the Wolfen Plastics subsidiary, which will increase the plant’s annual average PET recycling capacity to 27,000 tons.
Alpla and Texplast have been collaborating since July 2018. Texplast produces raw materials and Alpla uses its expertise and logistics network to return materials to Europe, especially in Germany, for material recycling.
Gepla Lässer, head of Alpla recycling, said: “The demand for recycled plastics is increasing. In order to meet the demand of our customers, we must strengthen recycling activities. With Texplast as a partner, we are able to obtain high quality recyclable materials in the German market. It is also possible to use the existing food retail network to ensure its professional position in the field of logistics.”
Texplast spokesperson Matthias Schäfer added: “By working with Alpla, we have completed the recycling cycle for plastic bottles. We recycle recyclables from the food retail industry and convert them into high quality, food safety grade pellets. Alpla will Use these pellets to produce preforms for making new PET beverage bottles.”
